Hope Section A's on the hill
"Visitors are always welcome to view our
ponies, kept as close to their natural environment as possible, yet still
producing winners...."

The Hope Herd running in their natural environment above the Towy Valley

The first "Hope" pony to be
registered with the Welsh Pony and Cob Society was in 1964 though ponies
and Cobs were kept by John’s father, Gwilym Harris, long before that
time, also at the Hope Farm, originally a public house, having been in
the family some 150 years. Today it is the base of the 360 acre farm
that is also home to pedigree Blue Faced Leicester and Jacob Sheep as
well as Welsh Black cattle.
Several of the Mountain Ponies
trace back to the "Paylands" stud of Linda’s aunt, Daphne Pennick, a
long time breeder from Essex |

Cennen Fusilier and John in the early seventies
The first stallion to stand
at Hope was Cennen Fusiler by Coed Coch Planed, bred by the late.Emrys Bowen
and purchased as a yearling in 1965. His influence is still in the
herd today. |
Visitors to the stud are most
welcome, but please phone first. The stud is situated in South West Wales,
within an hour of Builth Wells, some two miles from the A40 in Llandeilo,
alongside the B4302, leading to Talley.
